Online Hotel Bookings Show Uptrend Amid Gloom

As expected, TravelClick has reported a decline in global hotel industry’s performance during the second quarter this year. According to a report here negative performance is expected to continue well into mid-2010.
But amid all this negative trend, one channel has continued to grow - Online bookings have grown by 7% in Q2 2009 compared to past year. Hotels with optimized websites have reaped the benefits of users moving online to find the best available rates.
"We’ve seen an increase of online hotel bookings worldwide in the second quarter of 2009. The key is to make sure consumers are comfortable making transactions on your hotel Web site", said Kristi White, director of revenue optimization for TravelClick.
And because travel demand and ROI are interconnected, hoteliers must manage their online reputation more tightly and invest in their online presence, which is as important as the physical hotel.
